Surgery news

Dr Bayles will be retiring from the practice as of 10th September 2019. We wish her all the best for the future and thank her for the 6 years dedication to the practice.........We would like to welcome Dr H Cho as our new GP to Old Town Surgery. Patients of Dr Bayles will automatically be transferred to Dr Cho's care. Dr Cho has spent a year at our Little Common Surgery finalising his training as a General Practitioner and we are very lucky that he has chosen to remain at the practice.

Cardiac Clinic

bp_at_homeThose with established heart disease, or who are at special risk of developing it, are offered a thorough assessment by Dr Stocks, who has wide experience in this field. ECGs and all relevant blood tests are performed in-house, and we have direct access to many sophisticated tests which are normally only available after seeing a hospital Consultant.

These clinics are run by Dr Stocks, Sister Amanda Pragnell with support from one of our healthcare assistants.

Cervical Clinic / Well Women

The clinics are run by Sister Nicki Brooks, and Sister Hilary Coleman who will also perform a general health check.

Diabetic Clinic

This service, provided by Dr B C Bhaskaran, Sister Hilary Coleman and Sister Nicki Brooks, covers all aspects of care for the majority of our diabetic patients. Full regular check-ups (including eye examinations) and detailed monitoring are offered. The clinic includes an on-the-spot dietician and chiropodist, and the highest standard of care is ensured by regular audit and close liaison with the hospital department.

Minor Surgery

Minor Surgery is carried out at Old Town surgery. Small operations can be performed under local anaesthetic, whilst warts and other skin lesions can be removed by freezing. See your doctor first.

Sister Amanda Pragnell runs our respiratory clinic together with Sister Nicki Brooks and Pam Cunnington one of our healthcare assistants.  We offer treatments for newly-diagnosed asthmatics, both adults and children, a detailed assessment, and those already on treatment regular reviews to ensure the best possible control of their condition, plus follow-up care and review for our COPD patients.

Stop Smoking

Our healthcare assistants offer comprehensive advice and follow up for patients wishing to stop smoking, including nicotine replacement therapy.

3 Year Check

We are happy to offer those patients between 16 and 74 years who are well and rarely consult the doctor an opportunity to have a health assessment by the healthcare assistant once in 3 years.

If you are 75 years of age or over an annual assessment is available. Ask the receptionist for a ‘ Well Person Check ‘

Seasonal Influenza Vaccination ('Flu Jabs) syringe

Sessions are held between September and November each year. Times are advertised well in advance at the surgery. Places on the sessions are booked in advance.

We recommend ‘flu vaccination if you are:

  • aged 65 or over
  • suffer from heart or lung conditions
  • have any chronic disease
  • a carer
  • pregnant
  • a poultry worker

Dermatology Clinic

Dr Natasha Hinves and Dr Matthew Williams runs dermatology clinics at our sister surgery in the Old Town of Bexhill.  Please see your GP for a referral.

Sexual Health Clinic

Dr Gonzalez, together with one of our practice nurses, Nicki Brooks, run a Sexual Health Clinic at our sister surgery in the Old Town of Bexhill giving advice. Prescriptions and contraception including, the pill, emergency contraception, long term hormone implants and intrauterine devices.  They will also give advice on sexually transmitted infections.

Testing for Hepatitis B and HIV is also available.

The clinic is held on Wednesdays & Fridays 12:30 – 13:30 for pre-booked appointments.
